About the Program

Restorative Opportunities is the Correctional Service of Canada's victim-offender mediation program. It gives people who have been harmed by a federally sentenced crime a chance to communicate with the person who caused the harm: face to face, in writing, by video message, or through a mediator relaying messages between them. Mediators are hired and trained by CSC and are experienced in working with serious crime. Participation is voluntary for everyone involved at every stage, and an offender's participation is not connected to any sentencing or parole decision.

How referrals work

Victim-initiated and available anywhere in BC. People harmed by an offender serving a sentence of two years or more can ask to take part, including registered and non-registered victims, victim representatives, family members of the victim, and family members of the offender. Offenders can also ask to participate through their parole officer, chaplain, psychologist, or other CSC staff. Contact the program directly to start.
