About the Program
Youth probation officers work with young people aged 12 to 17 who are in conflict with the law. A restorative process can be used on any file a youth probation officer supervises: at extrajudicial sanctions, before sentencing through a section 19 conference held to assist the court, and after sentencing while a young person is serving a youth sentence in the community. The process is delivered by specialized youth probation officers called Restorative Justice Conferencing Facilitators (RJCFs), who assess whether a restorative process is appropriate and facilitate it. Youth probation teams work out of offices in communities across British Columbia.
How referrals work
Referrals come through the courts or a Youth Probation Officer only — this service does not accept self-referrals or police referrals. If a young person is on a court order or working with a probation officer, ask the youth probation team about a restorative justice referral.
